Zoë Tweed studied at Wells Cathedral School and the Royal Academy of Music, deputising with major UK orchestras while still a student. She is a professor at the Royal College of Music and in 2023 she joined the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra becoming their youngest member. She is partnered by the prize-winning American pianist Mark Rogers, also an alumnus of the Royal Academy of Music. Mark has made a considerable name for himself as a chamber musician, particularly in the lieder repertoire. 

Together they perform a wide-ranging and exciting programme designed to illustrate the many moods of the horn repertoire, ranging from virtuoso test pieces by Bozza and Dukas, a lyrical cradle song by Damase, Piazzolla’s Ave Maria, and the experimental Tre Poemi by Kirchner, exploring harmonic effects obtained by playing the horn into the open piano. There are sonatas by Koechlin and York Bowen, and for solo piano, Schumann’s Kinderszenen and Waldszenen.

Monoceros by the contemporary Norwegian composer and pianist Wolfgang Plagge, for solo horn is about the legendary Unicorn, an animal everybody has heard about but nobody has ever seen! Epilogue by Zoë Tweed and the British composer, saxophonist and accordionist Karen Street rounds off this intriguing concert.
