Boccherini: Quartet in E minor, Op.33 no.5
Beethoven: Quartet in E flat major, Op. 74 (the ‘Harp’)
Mendelssohn: Quartet in E flat major, Op.44 no.3
The prize-winning Consone Quartet is dedicated to exploring Classical and Early Romantic repertoire on period instruments. Praised for their seductive sound, technical excellence and fiery enthusiasm, the quartet is rapidly establishing an international reputation. They have been chosen among BBC New Generation Artists for 2019-21, joining a distinguished international group.
Boccherini wrote nearly 100 string quartets, full of Rococo charm and melodic invention. Beethoven’s Op. 74 dates from his middle period, shortly after completion of his 5th Symphony. Mendelssohn’s quartet is in the same key as his Octet, and shares something of the same exuberant character.
