Beethoven: Symphony No.6 (arranged Hummel)
Prokofiev: Suite from Romeo and Juliet
Before broadcasting and recordings made orchestral works available to all, many music-lovers heard – or indeed played – this music in arrangements and transcriptions by contemporary composers such as Hummel were enormously popular. Pocket Sinfonia was formed to explore this rich repertoire of the 19th century drawing room, reinterpreting orchestral masterpieces with the fresh spontaneity and intimacy of a chamber group. They have been delighting audiences with performances that demonstrate that this music is not merely a smaller version of a great piece, but something worth hearing in its own right, which can bring a different perspective on the original.
The ensemble comprises flute, violin, cello and piano.
