Buxtehude: Domine salvum fac regem BuxWV. 18

Interval

Vivaldi: Concerto for organ, violin and strings in D minor RV. 541

Michael Praetorius: three motets

Bach: Nimm, was dein ist, und gehe hin BWV. 144

Edit: We are pleased that mezzo-soprano Joanna Campion is able to step in to replace Elinor Carter, and that BBC Young Chorister of the year Belinda Gifford-Guy is willing to replace her mother, Lisa, and even give us a bonus piece of Vivaldi.

We close our season in traditional style with a concert given by the Thames Consort directed by Jeremy Boughton. We open with a Bach cantata: Vergnügte Ruh, beliebte Seelenlust, unusually scored for solo alto with strings and oboe d’amore and we are delighted to welcome mezzo-soprano Elinor Carter to sing it. At the end of the programme, she is joined by the choir and soprano Lisa Gifford-Guy for another Bach cantata: Nimm, was dein ist, und gehe hin.

Between the two Bach works, we have music by composers that Bach studied: a spirited concerto in D minor for violin and organ by Vivaldi, played by Sharon Warnes and Jeremy Boughton, three motets by Michael Praetorius and a cheerful cantata by Buxtehude: Domine salvum fac regem.

Lisa Gifford-Guy: Soprano

Elinor Carter: Mezzo-Soprano

Sharon Warnes: Violin

Jeremy Boughton: Organ and Director
